N00b Alert Hi All!My wife and I recently bought a 1981 CF 250 which we LOVE. It needs a fair bit of chassis work but it runs, works, is dry and drives nearly nicely which was a bit of a win. I have done some work myself on my family's volvos but this 2.3 slant is something else! Next step is finding a garage that can lift the cab off the chassis....... so will have a peruse of that forum post next. Excited! |

Hi Glad to see you are enjoyning your start to the CF journey
The 2.3 slant is a simple engine, unlike modern cars. Most things are easy enough to fix. Just remember one thing, the slant engine has soft valve seats so running on plain unleaded will damage your head over time, well, not yours but the CFs You'll need to add a lead replacement additive to your tank or, if you are planning on keeping the CF for a while, consider getting hardend valve seats fitted.

Thanks Colin! May have bitten off more than we can chew, but we will see. Yes have lead additive already, and will look into the hardend valve seats, thank you! I noticed that all the posts in the 'recommended mechanics' bit are all quite old, so I'm hoping some of them will still exist! Seems difficult finding a garage comfortable lifting cab off chassis....a day of searching it is then |
